Fine Arts

Art Masterpiece:
Students are instructed in grade level standards in Visual Arts through the Art Masterpiece Program. This program is run completely by parent volunteers and funded through our Bobcat Club.   At each grade level, students study the lives and work of different art masters.  They then produce work in the style of that master.  A full curriculum has been developed that takes the volunteers step by step through the work.  We also have a kiln on site, where students can create, fire and glaze their own ceramics.

SPECTRA Visiting Artists:
Students are also given instruction in different arts each year through the SPECTRA visiting artists program.  In the 2012-2013 school year, the students are doing visual art with Gwen Toevs.  Their work is connected to the curriculum they are studying in t class, and the art work enhances the understanding of those content areas.  In past years, we have had dance teachers come in to teacher world dance in 2011-12 school year, and West African drumming and dance in the 2010-11 school year.

K-3, students are given 15 weeks of instruction in music each year, and in the 4th and 5th grade, students have music weekly.  We also have after school band for 4th and 5th graders.  Focus of music instruction is on performance through voice and instruments, as well as learning to read musical notation.

We believe that development of the arts is very important to the education of our students.  We thank our Bobcat Club for continuing to provide the funding to support our programs.
